Art Valet: the Bayou City Art Festival is about to return | Arts

The Bayou City Art Festival is back, baby!

Mark your schedule for the in-person festival, Bayou City Art Festival Downtown, which runs along Allen Parkway and Sam Houston Park from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. October 9-10.

You may remember the many efforts by the Art Colony Association, Inc. (ACA), the producer of the Bayou City Art Festival (BCAF), to support the artists and stay afloat over the past year and a half. , which I mentioned here. There has been a massive anonymous donation to artists, virtual happy hours, auctions, and flagship products offered on the website.

The good news is that Houston’s iconic arts event has survived three unprecedented festival cancellations. Unfortunately, I’ve read articles on long-running festivals across the country that haven’t been successful. The artists who attend these national festivals have literally lost their livelihood. The false starts and then the repeated cancellations must have been just as disheartening.

I am a long time BCAF fan and get lost wandering the festival, visiting the artists and listening to their stories. I’m not sure, but I think this is the first time BCAF has been set up at Sam Houston Park and Allen Parkway.

Fans like me are ready to return to a full-fledged art festival. BCAF will not disappoint you. The festival will feature live music, food trucks and drink stations as well as two entertainment stages and art installations.

The perk of being just outside of downtown on Allen Parkway is the view of the skyline – while enjoying a wine garden, craft beer garden, and a bar. art. For children, there is the Active Imagination Zone. The festival’s non-profit partners will organize hands-on art activities for all ages. It is always a great success.

For the ultimate art lover, BCAF and Frost Bank will offer a limited availability VIP ticket experience, which will include a tented oasis with light snacks and complimentary beer, wine, and other beverages. The relaxing setting under a canopy of trees will feature buskers, artistic decor, a phone charging station and more. VIPs will receive all-day access to the VIP area, as well as VIP parking.

As one of the best art festivals in the country, the weekend event will provide guests with the opportunity to personally meet artists, view original artwork, and purchase artwork from 19 artistic disciplines including paintings, prints, jewelry, sculptures and more.

The festival’s nonprofit partners include Artists For Artists, Fresh Arts, Houston SPCA, Warriors In Art, Orange Show For Visionary Art, and The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. As part of its mission, ACA has raised more than $ 3.6 million for local nonprofit programs through the proceeds of its festivals.

The Bayou City Art Festival Memorial Park in the spring and the Bayou City Art Festival Downtown in the fall have enabled more than 20,000 artists to present their work to thousands of art lovers around the world.

Tickets will be available soon, including early bird tickets and VIP tickets. Get them and much more on the website,
