Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kargil-II hosted a Kisan Mela Day – Kashmir Reader


SRINAGAR: Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kargil-II (Zanskar) one day celebrated Kisan Mela at their main campus Padum Zanskar on 23-09-2021. The key theme of the Mela was “Empowering Youth and Tribal Women for Technology-Based Agriculture in the Arid and Cold Deserts of the Himalayas”. Farmers from different villages, officials from parent departments, BDC presidents, Sarpanches, Panches and other local representatives from the Zanskar region participated in the event. Fresh agricultural produce and value added products from KrishiVigyan Kendra, progressive farmers and self-help groups (SHG) were featured in the Mela. In addition, advanced agricultural machinery, high-quality local processed products, seeds of promising varieties of high-yielding grains, fodder and vegetables, and other advanced technologies introduced by Kendra were also presented. Director Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kargil-II (Zanskar), Dr Shahnawaz Rasool Dar and other Kendra scientists stressed the importance of adopting modern scientific tools and technologies, high-yielding varieties, diversification of crops, quality forage and mineral supplements to improve animal health and conservation. of the natural resource base. He informed the participants that these programs are carried out under the instructions and general direction of the Honorable Vice-Chancellor Professor JP Sharma and Director of Extension Professor Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi, SKUAST-K for the welfare of the tribal farming community from the Ladakh region. Krishi Vigyan Kendra’s scientific team expressed their satisfaction that the interventions made by the Kendra in recent years as these have started to bear fruit at ground level. The officers of the line departments placed special emphasis on organic farming and also informed the participants about the various government programs available for the welfare of the farming community in Ladakh. The eleven top-performing farmers received awards and consolation prizes were also distributed to other participants who exhibited their products during KisanMela.
